You can try to enable PHP mailer authenticating through SMTP at the bottom of this page:

Admin Area -> Application Setup -> Advanced Setup

Here are the steps required:

1/ Change "Method to send mail" to "SMTP Server"
2/ Specify SMTP Host/Port
3/ Enable SMTP authentication
4/ Specify SMTP Username/Password
5/ Click "Update"

If your script version has "No-Reply Email" option in Application Setup (since 4.0.14), it may be necesary to match SMTP Username with "No-Reply Email"(make sure they are the same)

Error example :

If you have similar mysql error, it means either MySQL access details (username / password) are not correct or you forgot to assign mysql user to mysql database in Hosting Control Panel.

Please double check both cases.

To install ionCube (required for Esvon Classifieds on PHP 5.3+) on Your Linux Hosting Account (e.g. GoDaddy hosting) or locally:

1. Download the corresponding compressed binary file from ionCube's site (Linux x86 usually).

2. Unarchive the compressed file and upload "loader-wizard.php" to web root directory of your hosting account.

3. Run loader-wizard.php from web browser and follow the instructions

Here are the possible solutions :

1/ reupload "/cron/cl_cron.php" in ASCII mode
2/ CHMOD "/cron/cl_cron.php" to 755 (make it executable)
3/ make sure path to php at the top of cl_cron.php file is correct and update it if not (should be /usr/bin/php or /usr/local/bin/php usually)
4/ make sure PHP is not running in safe mode

Yes, please go to "Downloads" area and get "Esvon Classifieds Files Permissions Express Setup" utility. It connects via FTP to the server where Esvon Classifieds is installed and executes series of necessary CHMODs. Make sure you uploaded Esvon Classifieds before using it.
Of course you can always set the necessary permissions manually if you prefer manual work.

There some possible solutions for this issue, some of them are listed below.

The email account you use can reject email messages for some reason, try to use 2-3 alternative email addresses to make sure the problem exists for them all.

If you still can't receive any messages, it seems PHP mail() function is not working properly at your server, now you can check the following :

1/ If this is a fresh PHP installation, php.ini file should be configured properly for php mail() function to work, i.e. on Windows platform SMTP server has to be specified in php.ini.

2/ Your server can be configured to prevent "nobody" user (under which Apache runs) from sending out e-mails. This will cause any automated e-mails coming from script to bounce. The solution is to allow "nobody" to send mail, please talk to your host admin regarding this.

You can create sample PHP script which uses mail() function for test email sending and when it will work, you should be able to receive email from our script as well.

Here is an approximate check list for successfully moving your web site from one server to another :

1) make sure the new server meets software requirements listed at http://www.esvon.com/pg/products/p_classifieds/req/;

2) backup the database for Esvon Classifieds (use mysqldump or phpMyAdmin which is usually available from hosting control panel);

3) compress the entire website dir into a single file to preserve the directories and files as currently maintained and move/upload it to the new server;

4) unpack website into the new location;

5) set correct directories / files permissions if necessary (make some of them writable) according to /docs/readme.txt;

6) create database on the new server and restore it from the backup dump;

7) configure software to find the new database (update inc/application.php settings);

8) make sure the website works as expected using any temporary URL to the new server;

9) transfer the domain to the new server.

In your hosting account control panel you should be able to setup daily Cron Job for cron/cl_cron.php.
For example in CPanel you click "Cron jobs", select "Once a day" in "Add New Cron Job" section, enter proper command line and click "Add New Cron Job" button.

Some examples of command line:

a) wget -q -O - http://www.example.com/cron/cl_cron.php (replace "www.example.com" with your website URL)
b) /usr/bin/php -q /var/www/cron/cl_cron.php
(replace "/var/www/" with full path to your website files, path to PHP can be /usr/local/bin/php as well)

Let's start from the good. If you got this error, MySQL server connection was established and at least MySQL host/username/password are ok.

Now about the problem. There are 2 'most popular' reasons why you can have "Database select failed" error:

1/ you may have the wrong database name entered - make sure you entered correct name of existing MySQL database;

2/ mysql user account you entered is not granted access to this database. If you use CPanel as hosting control panel, all you have to do is to go to "MySQL databases", select user and db in drop-down menus and click "Add User to Db" button (make sure "Privileges" is set to "ALL"). In other control panels, it is resolved in the similar way.

Most likely this happens due to incorrect file or directory permission mask.

All file / directory permissions have to be set as explained in

To make sure you set all the permissions correctly please visit

According to installation instructions ( see /docs/readme.txt ) you have to make certain files and dirs writable - please follow install instructions carefully.

In this particular case, if you use Linux/UNIX server please chmod inc/application.php to 666 to make it writable and try to click "Install" after this.
